Meet Chris Yates, Director and Creator of Emmaus: The Nature of the Way!

Have you ever had a special connection with someone, wishing that everyone had the opportunity to experience the same exact thing? That’s what Chris Yates, Director and Creator of Emmaus: The Nature of the Way, was thinking when he focused on the bonds he had created with the Jesuit community in college. He wanted to break down the barriers so often placed on priests, showing people that priests are humans too. Thus, Emmaus: The Nature of the Way was born.

Chris’ strong relationship with the Jesuits stemmed from his involvement in Campus Ministry at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Originally from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, he found comfort in the Jesuit ideals upon starting his college experience. He had the opportunity to combine his passions for faith and photography while working as the primary photographer for Campus Ministry at LMU. Here, he was able to grow in faith with his fellow peers as well as the Jesuits, who became friends, mentors and spiritual directors to him.

Chris graduated from LMU with a B.A. in Screenwriting and Archaeology Minor in May 2016. He made the bold move to Chicago, Illinois in August 2016 to serve a year of postgraduate service with a faith-based program called Amate House. Through Amate House, he works at the John Paul II Newman Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he assists students and organizes service in action opportunities.

Stay tuned for a deeper dive into Emmaus: The Nature of the Way. Look forward to meeting Photographer Robert Macaisa, and take a closer look at the style and process of the entire project. We look forward to the journey ahead.
